There is less to clean, less home maintenance, they are easier to heat, and can look wonderfully comfortable and cozy. If you live in a small house, the space under your stairs could easily be converted to create a small office space, shelving area, reading nook, kids play area or dog house. This is a huge space which is often under-utilized.
Use Outdoor Space
If you’ve got a garden, you could have a guest room built in the form of a tree house or a small flat. You could even convert your shed into an office or library as long it’s waterproofed. Even if you don’t have a garden, you may be able to create an outdoor seating area on your front porch or have a Juliet balcony in an apartment so you can at least let lots of fresh air in and enjoy the outdoors.
Maximize the Space
The key to any renovations in a small home is making the most of whatever space you have got. Some of the best ways to make the most of your space include:
- Baseboard drawers
- Over the door storage
- High wall mounted shelves
- Wall mounted TVs and radios
- Secret cupboards
Whatever space you have available, there will be a lot that you can do with it. Sit down and make a plan. Consider your priorities, tastes and what you want from your home. Then make a budget and get started with your changes.
